Hi guys,

I'm having a mysterious issue where the only text in a program is displayed on row 1 of the LCD. I have the 20x4 lcd. I've tried it with intialload and the tempsensor project. I've had my lcd for about a year and a half. Lines 2 and 3 light up on programming mode but thats it.

Did something else change in your programming toolchain? Like an upgrade of av-libc or something similar?

I don't think so, I re downloaded everything from the ubuntu software center and it still gives me the same problem!

Have you tried changing the compiler optimization options for the code. This could be a case of an overzealous compiler optimization.

Thats Weird, the lcd works fine in windows 7 so it must be a problem in the avr toolchain in ubuntu. I cannot go back to win 7 for programming my nerdkit!

So do a re-install on ubuntu.

Then once you have everything working I am gong to need some hand holding to install a dual boot ubuntu/windows 7 x64.

Dual booting windows and ubuntu is very easy. I've dual booted win 7 with Ubuntu 11.04 and xp with ubuntu 11.1.

As long as you have windows on the hard drive first it should work without a hitch! Ubuntu provides a very easy graphical interface to partition your hard drive.

I love Ubuntu 12.04 LTS when working with electronics and programming my nerdkit except for this minor problem with the lcd. It seemed to work fine in 11.04. Once I get a bigger hard drive I'm going to dual boot ubuntu 12.04 and windows 7 on my workbench computer.

I just re installed Ubuntu 12.04 and it still only displays 1 line of text! Any suggestions?

I just had to delete the old .o and .hex files and it worked!
