If I plugged the battery in with a few wires miswired, could I have done permanent damage to the LCD piece? LCD wasn't lighting up. I read I might have the wrong resistor, but I just put the unit away for tonight. Thanks in advance.

There is always the possibility that you can do permanent damage. Electricity is unforgiving. It moves at the speed of light, and bad things happen quickly.

Simply wire everything correctly, and see if it works- if not...

If not, post back.
