I got my Nerdkit for Christmas. I think this is a great idea. I am a tech with years of programming and years of circuit building. I built things using lots of cmos and discrete parts most of which could be done with one micro-controller. I had no idea how to get my programs loaded into a chip. I think the time is long since past that I should learn these things and this seems like a perfect way to do it.
